Frequently Asked Questions
Can the headboard be removed for a cleaner look?
Yes. The bed is designed to work with or without the headboard, so you can leave it off entirely for a lower, more minimalist profile. On Full, Queen, and King sizes the headboard comes as two separate headboard panels, which also gives you a little flexibility.
What's the weight limit for this bed frame?
The frame supports up to 500 lbs total, or roughly 250 lbs per person. That capacity comes from the solid mahogany construction combined with the included center support beam and two support legs on Full, Queen, and King sizes, which reinforce the slats and keep the platform stable.
Can I use a regular mattress, or does it have to be a futon?
Any standard mattress works—you're not limited to a futon. The slatted base plus center support provides a firm, even foundation, so there's no need for a box spring. A medium-height mattress in the 10–12" range tends to pair best with the frame's low profile, though the Japanese-style futon many customers use also works beautifully.
Is a mattress included with the bed?
No, the mattress is sold separately so you can choose the feel and height that suit you. If you want the traditional Tatami experience, a coconut coir pad and a shikibuton is a great match, but the frame is fully compatible with any standard mattress you already own or plan to buy.
Can I purchase extra headboard pieces?
No. The bed ships with its headboard included, but additional headboard panels aren't available to order separately. If you're planning a daybed or bench-style setup against a wall, the frame still works well on its own—it just can't be expanded with extra headboard sections.
What is the bed made of, and does it need a box spring?
It's crafted from 100% solid Indonesian Mahogany hardwood—real wood throughout, with no MDF, particle board, or veneer. Because it includes sturdy slats and a center support beam with legs, it functions as a complete foundation on its own, so no box spring or additional support is required.
What sizes and finishes are available?
The bed comes in Twin, Full, Queen, and King, with a low 8" frame height that gives it its grounded, Japanese aesthetic. You can choose from three finishes—Natural Mahogany, Antique Mahogany, and Urban Oak—to match warmer or richer décor.
