Collection: Full Size Futon Mattresses
Find the best full size futon mattress for your home, whether you are upgrading a daily sleeper or refreshing a guest room. A full size futon mattress (54" x 75") is the industry standard for versatility, offering enough width for two adults to sleep comfortably while remaining compact enough to fold into a streamlined sofa. Our collection features sustainable, high-comfort designs that serve as the perfect full size sleeper sofa replacement mattress or a standalone bed.
Our handmade mattresses are built with layers of dense cotton, wool, and optional latex or foam to provide superior comfort and longevity. This construction ensures they are flexible enough to bi-fold for seating yet supportive enough to provide a restful night's sleep, making them a significant upgrade in quality and feel for any futon frame.
Full Futon Dimensions & Fit
Sized to standard futon dimensions (Full) of approximately 54" x 75", these mattresses fit perfectly on any standard full size futon frame. Unlike thin, temporary pads, our full futon mattresses are constructed with supportive cores of cotton, wool, and latex. This ensures they hold their shape on a futon sofa bed full of guests or provide proper ergonomic support when used as a permanent full size bed futon.
Versatile Styling: From Sofa to Floor Bed
Pair your mattress with our solid wood full size futon frames to create a durable full futon couch bed that looks great in any living room. If you prefer a lower profile, these mattresses function beautifully on a platform bed or as part of a grounded floor bed setup. You can even layer them with thinner Japanese futon mattresses (shikibutons) for a custom hybrid feel.
Organic Comfort & Protection
From firm cotton futon blends to pressure-relieving latex hybrids, we have a full sized futon feel for every sleeper. To keep your setup fresh, we recommend pairing your new mattress with a breathable protector or a stylish full size futon cover. The Perfect Fit for Sofa Frames
Most convertible futon frames—whether wooden bi-folds or metal tri-folds—are designed for a Full size mattress. At 54 inches wide, it fits perfectly between the arms of a standard sofa. Most of our mattresses are tufted by hand to keep the internal layers from shifting or bunching when folded, ensuring your futon looks neat as a couch and feels smooth as a bed. If you are replacing an older mattress, this upgrade will instantly revitalize your furniture.
Comfort for Guests & Daily Use
A full size futon is often the unsung hero of the guest room or studio apartment. To ensure your guests (or you) wake up refreshed, we offer customizable cores. Choose a pure cotton and wool blend for a traditional, firm feel, or upgrade to a model with a CertiPUR-US® foam or natural latex core for added resilience and pressure relief. These materials provide the support needed for side sleeping, making your futon a genuine alternative to a traditional bed.

Frequently Asked Questions: Full Size Futons
What are the dimensions of a Full size futon?
A standard full size futon mattress measures 54" x 75". This is the same size as a standard Full (Double) bed mattress and fits most bi-fold futon sofa frames.
Will this fold easily on my frame?
Yes. Our 6-inch and 8-inch profiles are designed specifically to bend. The hand-tufting keeps the cotton and wool batting secured, allowing the mattress to fold at the crease without damaging the internal fibers.
Is a Full size big enough for two people?
Yes. A Full size provides 27 inches of width per person, which is sufficient for two adults to sleep comfortably. It is a significant upgrade from a Twin, which is only suitable for a single sleeper.
Can I use this on the floor?
Absolutely. While these are designed for frames, a full size futon mattress works perfectly as a floor bed. If using it on the floor, we recommend placing a tatami mat or coconut coir pad underneath to promote airflow.
Do I need a cover?
We highly recommend it. Since a futon is often used as a sofa, it is exposed to more wear, spills, and pets than a regular bed. A removable, washable futon cover will protect your investment.
How do you meet fire safety standards without chemicals?
We avoid toxic sprays and fiberglass entirely. Instead, we rely on the safety of natural materials. For most of our mattresses, we wrap the core in a layer of virgin wool, which is naturally flame-resistant and meets federal standards (16 CFR 1633) on its own. For some models, like an all-cotton futon, we treat the unbleached cotton batting with natural borate—a safe, non-toxic earth mineral. Both methods ensure your mattress is fire-safe without exposing you to harsh synthetic retardants.
