Collection: Mattresses
Mattresses made with natural materials are the smart choice for anyone who wants a healthier, more breathable sleep surface without the strong odors and chemicals common in conventional beds. By focusing on real fibers like organic cotton, natural wool, and latex, our designs balance firm support with contouring comfort so you can wake feeling rested, not weighed down.
This collection encompasses our entire range of sustainable sleep solutions. From hand-tufted futon mattresses perfect for platform beds to luxurious hybrid innerspring mattresses for the primary bedroom, and even safe, firm options for the nursery. Every mattress we offer is free from fiberglass and chemical flame retardants, prioritizing natural materials to ensure a pure environment for every member of the family.
In this collection, you’ll find options built from certified organic cotton, virgin wool, and natural latex, allowing you to choose the level of firmness and pressure relief that fits your body best. Many sleepers start by comparing our organic mattresses with pieces from the broader natural mattress collection, looking at factors like support, motion isolation, and how closely they want the mattress to echo the feel of a traditional futon or a more cushioned modern bed.
Because these mattresses are designed to breathe, they work especially well on simple, well-ventilated frames—whether that’s a low, solid-wood platform, a Japanese-style setup with tatami, or a classic slatted base. The goal is to keep air moving freely underneath so natural fibers like cotton and wool can regulate temperature and wick moisture the way they’re meant to, helping the mattress stay fresher and more supportive over time.
Layering is an easy way to fine-tune comfort while protecting your investment. A plush wool or latex topper from our natural mattress toppers can add extra cushioning at the shoulders and hips, while breathable waterproof mattress protectors guard against spills and moisture without sealing the bed under plastic. These add-ons let you adjust the feel of your mattress season by season while keeping the core clean and well supported.

The "Comfort Pure" Standard
Whether you choose a simple cotton shikibuton or a high-end organic hybrid, the core philosophy remains the same: Nature does it better. We replace the hot, synthetic foams found in "bed-in-a-box" brands with breathable plant and animal fibers. These materials naturally wick away moisture, regulate body temperature, and resist dust mites, creating a sleep environment that is cleaner, cooler, and longer-lasting than synthetic alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions: Mattresses
Which mattress type is right for me?
If you prefer a firm, grounded feel (like a traditional Japanese floor bed) or need a mattress that can fold onto a sofa frame, choose our Futon Mattresses. If you prefer the familiar bounce, depth (10-12"), and contouring support of a traditional luxury mattress, choose our Bed Mattresses (Hybrids), which feature steel coils.
Are all your mattresses chemical-free?
Yes. We have a strict policy against using toxic chemicals. Whether you buy our affordable Natural line or our certified Organic line, your mattress will be free from fiberglass, chemical flame retardant sprays, formaldehyde, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). We use natural wool or safe mineral salts (boron) to meet fire safety standards naturally.
Do you offer custom sizes?
Yes. Because our futon mattresses and many of our bed mattresses are handcrafted, we can accommodate custom dimensions for antique beds, RVs, camper vans, or tiny homes. Please contact our team for a quote on a custom size.
How are your mattresses shipped?
To reduce our carbon footprint and shipping costs, most of our mattresses are compressed and rolled for delivery via standard ground shipping (FedEx/UPS). Once you unroll the mattress, it will expand to its full shape. Because we use dense, high-quality natural materials, these boxes can be heavy—we recommend having a second person help you move it into your room.
Do I need a specific bed frame?
All of our mattresses require a breathable foundation.
- Futons: require a slat foundation (slats 3" apart or less) or a tatami mat if used on the floor.
- Bed Mattresses: require a sturdy platform bed or a slat foundation.
Avoid: We do not recommend placing any natural mattress directly on a solid plywood board or carpet without a moisture barrier (like a tatami mat), as this can trap humidity and lead to mold.
