Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are used in the Columbus Platform Bed?
The Columbus is a natural bed crafted in Ukraine from high-quality beech wood, providing both durability and a beautiful look. This eco-friendly material ensures that your bed is not only sturdy but also sustainable.
Is this bed available with additional storage options?
Yes, the Columbus Bed is available with matching under-bed storage drawers, nightstands, and bedroom chests. These pieces allow you to enhance your bedroom’s storage while maintaining a cohesive, natural aesthetic.
Can the Columbus bed be used with a futon mattress?
Yes, although these beds can accommodate any conventional mattress, for a more sustainable choice you can opt for a cotton mattress or a cotton and wool futon mattress in a matching size. The solid beech wood slat system offers the ideal support for a futon mattress, providing both comfort and durability for a restful sleep.
What type of mattress is recommended for this bed?
The Columbus bed is sold as a frame only. However, we recommend pairing it with our 6 or 8-inch natural futon mattresses. For platform beds, we recommend using a queen or full-size futon mattress made with lambswool. Not only does it regulate body temperature, it works as a natural fire retardant. So your mattress will be free from toxic chemicals used on standard mattresses.
Can I use a tatami mat with this bed?
Absolutely! The Columbus Platform Bed is perfect for use with a tatami mat or a coir pad, adding a traditional Japanese touch to your bedroom. The solid slat foundation ensures that the mat remains secure while providing extra support for a futon mattress.
Is the Columbus Platform Bed eco-friendly?
Yes, the Columbus bed is part of our Eco-friendly Platform Beds collection, which emphasizes sustainability and natural materials. The beech wood used in this bed is sourced responsibly, and we recommend pairing it with eco-friendly mattresses such as those made with natural cotton and wool.
